Shoalwatch compiles facts that official registries and certification bodies have already published about licensed businesses. Some of those published records contain personal data. This page says exactly what we do with it.

Farm registrations

India’s Coastal Aquaculture Authority publishes a register of farm registrations that names individual farmers, their fathers’ or husbands’ names, their addresses and their survey numbers. We store that register so we can count it, and we publish only aggregates: how many registrations a district or mandal holds, how many are active, and how much water-spread area they cover.

We do not list individual farmers anywhere on this site. We never display a father’s or husband’s name. We do not geocode or map individual farms. A subscriber may look up a single registration by its exact registration number or exact name to verify a document they already hold; that returns one record and never a list.

Business contact details

Entity pages show the address, telephone number and email address that the registry itself published for that business, with the source and the date we retrieved it. We do not add contact details from anywhere else, and we do not collect or infer personal contact details for individuals at those businesses.

Your account

If you sign in we store your email address, your plan, and the items on your watchlist. We use your email address to send the alerts you asked for and to reply to you. We do not sell it, and we do not send marketing to it. Deleting your account deletes all of it; email [email protected] from the address in question and we will confirm within 72 hours.

The three questions at sign-up

After you sign in we ask what you do, which markets you sell into, and which countries you buy from or operate in. Those three answers are the only things this site records about you rather than about a registry, and they exist for one purpose: to decide which items to put on your watchlist so that your first email is not empty. We do not ask for, and do not store, a company name, a job title, a telephone number or an address. If you tick a company during that step, what is stored is a watch item pointing at that company’s public registry record, not text about you.

Only your own account can read your answers, which is enforced by the database rather than by the application. We do not use them for advertising, we do not share them, and we do not publish them in aggregate. You can change them, or remove every item they created, on your account page; deleting your account deletes them with it.

Correction and removal

If a fact about you or your business is wrong here, tell us and we will check it against the source and correct or remove it. We acknowledge within 72 hours. Use the correction form or email [email protected]. If the underlying registry is the one that is wrong, we will say so and point you at it, because we cannot change what a regulator publishes.

How we read the registries

Our reader identifies itself to every registry with a contact address, keeps its request rate modest, and slows down further when a server is under strain. We never use a logged-in session, and we do not read social networks, messaging platforms or marketplaces. If you administer a registry and want us to slow down or stop, write to [email protected] and we will.
